Carol A. Kubina
Age 83, of Morris, IL passed away Monday September 4, 2017 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Carol Angeline was born at home in Chicago, IL on April 12, 1934 to Nicholas and Lucille Cerceo. She was the oldest of three children. Carol has 1 sister, Joan and 1 brother, Nicholas. Her father worked as a polisher and buffer at that time, and her mother stayed home to raise the children.
At the age of 81, she remembers as a child her and her siblings loved to roller-skate. They would go to, “The Planet” and “The Swank” located on 111th and Western. During skating breaks they would take off their skates and dance on the floor barefooted. It was such a great time, which they were able to go if their
chores were done.
Carol’s dad’s specialty was making homemade pizza. He made a variety of Cheese, sausage, canadian bacon and anchovy. They were so delicious he made them for the neighbors. At night, the family would sit around the radio and listen to Joe Lewis and Tommy Conn boxing and other programs such as Morris B. Sacks and Arthur Godfrey.
Carol attended Raster Grammar School for 8 years, Harper High School for 2 years and graduated from Jones Commercial Business School after 4 years. Her very first job was babysitting at the age of 13. When she was a young adult, she worked at Hillman’s Grocery Store located under the Sears building on 63rd and Halsted in the candy department. She also worked at Chicago City Bank & Trust in the auditing department. At the same time, she made signs at the Dime Store where she met her future husband, Ewald Kubina, who worked as a stock boy. After dating for awhile they enjoyed each other so much they married in 1953. They loved going to shows, dances, roller skating, and restaurants, which Ewald was a steak and potato kind of guy and Carol liked a variety of foods. Their favorite place to go was, The Marquette and Nielsons O’ Henrys which was a night club with dancing and plays. They were very fancy and elegant places.
Carol is the beloved mother of Ewald "Jay" (Mary Pat) Kubina, Jr., Nicoletta Kubina, the late Lisa (Dean) Reiner and Eric (Nancy) Kubina; loving grandmother of Tanya (Anthony) Marzullo, Ewald "EJ" (Allison) Kubina III, Evan (Ashton) Kubina; Christopher (Nancy) Kubina, Eric (Tina) Kubina, Andrew (Shyanne) Kubina, Monica (Tim) Koziol; Amanda (Arturo) Gomez, Dean (Katie) Reiner, Jr, Dustin Reiner; Brittney (Bo) Meier and Ethan Kubina; proud great-grandmother of Angelina, Ayden, Rylee, Holly, Piper, Lillian; Ayden, Abbey, Ellie, Autumn, Brently, Luke, Brody and Aubrey. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Joe Pierrie and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, Ewald J. "Wally" Kubina, Sr.; daughter, Lisa Reiner; brother, Nicholas (late Rosemary) Cerceo, Jr., sister, Joan Pierrie and her parents.
Carol loved the Christmas season and enjoyed ceramics. She was a member of the Red Hat Sociey and the Catholic Women's League.
All friends and relatives can gather Saturday September 30, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 516 E. Jackson St. in Morris, IL from 9:30 a.m. until a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Carol is celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, IL. As it was Carol's wish, cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for children.
