Obituary of Elizabeth Papesh

Elizabeth S. Papesh "Speedy" (nee Simonic) Age 90. Passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. Born January 16, 1917 in Joliet to the late Martin and Ana (nee Nemanich) Simonic. She was a proud survivor of breast cancer. A former parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she also attended grade school and married her husband Louis on November 15, 1944. A graduate of Lockport Township High School. Worked for Ruberoid during WWII and had most recently been employed at the University of Chicago, as senior payroll clerk for over 20 years. Played for the Armoured Stars Women's Basketball Team. She was an avid cook and enjoyed watching cooking programs. Survived by her son, Gregory Papesh of Chicago; two sisters, Helen (late Thomas) Talarico of Honolulu, HI and Dorothy (late Edward) Mufich of Crest Hill; her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Simonic and Claire Virginia Simonic; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Louis Papesh (1970); her parents; four sisters, Anne (Anthony) Bluth, Isabel (Louis) Kodrick, Josephine (Wendel) Rau, and Olga (Frank) Ambrosic; and two brothers, Walter and Edward Simonic. Funeral Services for Elizabeth S. Papesh were held Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Private burial at St. Joseph Cemetery to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund would be appreciated. Memorial Masses for Elizabeth S. Papesh will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 5472 S. Kimbark, Chicago, and Friday, May 25, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1012 E. 47th St, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Thomas Catholic Church Building Fund or St. Ambrose Catholic Church Building Fund appreciated.
