Obituary of Harry J. Karbel

Harry J. Karbel Age 86, of Joliet, IL died Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center. He was born October 1, 1929 to the late Josephine (nee Krall) and James H. Karbel in Joliet. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran who served in Korea, flying B-29's as a CFC Gunner in 13 combat missions. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant and after the war, he was a C-97 aerial refueler. He is survived by three daughters, Jean M. (Gabriel) Carreno, Laura L. Karbel and Tina J. Karbel, all of Joliet; three grandchildren, Jayme L. and Jill M. Slucki and Max Carreno; several nieces and nephews also survive as well as his canine companions, Jedi and Yoda. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Patricia A. (nee Haggerty) Karbel; his daughter, Michael Ann in infancy; his parents and two sisters, Genevieve Koncar and Georgia Pantelas. Harry was employed for over 35 years at Caterpillar Inc. and retired as Superintendent of the Maintenance and Tool Room. He enjoyed woodworking in his home workshop and playing "club pogo". The Karbel family will always remember the excellent care provided Harry by Dr. Chawla and nurse Kathy, Dr. Leung and Nurse Kim as well as Dr. Ramesh Patel. Their kindness will never be forgotten. As it was Harry's wish, cremation rites have been accorded. A private family memorial service will be held. For information (815) 741-5500.
