Obituary of Mildred M. Slattery

Mildred M. "Millie" Slattery (nee Hirsch) Age 100. Passed away peacefully, Monday, July 18, 2016 at Senior Star at Weber Place. Born in Joliet, IL on October 20, 1915 to the late Joseph and Frances (nee Betsche) Hirsch. Millie was a member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond and its CCW, and was named CCW Woman of the Year. Millie also volunteered for the Medical Missions and for local homeless shelters. Millie was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a caring grandmother and great-grandmother. Family meant everything to her. She also enjoyed traveling and playing cards with her friends. Beloved mother of Thomas J. (Debra) Slattery of Palatine, Raymond (Rita) Slattery of Joliet, Mary Ellen (Richard) Bishop of Plainfield and Sally Slattery of Joliet; loving grandmother of Katherine (Matthew) Pieper, Elizabeth DeAngelis, Shenon (Michael) Bone, Erin (Neil) Gallagher, Timothy (fiancee Ashley Tesch) Slattery, Patricia "Tricia" (Brad) Boese and Nicole (Rocky) Phillips; proud great-grandmother of Andrew, Monica and Brighton Bone, Haeley, Sophia and Jacob Boese, Reagan and Kennedy Phillips, Thomas and Clayton Pieper, and Liam and Grace Gallagher. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas Francis Slattery (1979); one grandson, Aidan Bone; her parents; brothers, Joseph, Alfred, Edward, Walter and Harold Hirsch; and sisters, Ruffina Hirsch and Frances Stewart. Funeral Services for Mildred M. Slattery will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Angels Grace Hospice or Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated. Visitation Thursday, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
