Obituary of Diana M. Stonitsch

Diana M. Stonitsch (nee Jones) Age 87. Peacefully, with her family by her side on Saturday, July 16, 2016. Born February 13, 1929 in Oak Park, IL., she was a proud and longtime resident of Joliet, IL., and one of it's greatest advocates and ardent supporters. Survived by her loving daughters, Laura (William) Conrad of Scottsdale AZ, Mary (Russ) Augello of Park Ridge, IL, Alice "Kiki" Schwartz of Chicago; she was "Nana" to three grandchildren, Sara (John) Masciandaro, Madeleine Schwartz and Matthew Augello; and two great-grandsons, Will and Henry Masciandaro. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gilbert J. Stonitsch; and their son, Gilbert J. Stonitsch, Jr. in infancy. Diana was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Church, Joliet Junior Women's Club, Visitation & Aid Society, St. Joseph Women's Auxiliary, Joliet Area Community Television and other charitable/civic organizations where she served in various leadership roles including past president. Diana took great pleasure in meeting and interviewing "Special People". Faith, gratefulness, joyfulness and love were the hallmarks of Diana's character. Diana, in her earlier years, she absolutely loved to play golf not only with her husband, Gil, but with Lady Elks as well. Wednesdays, at Al's Steakhouse were not like any other day, as the "On the Spot" commentator for the Hansen Dress Shop of Manhattan her critique and description was spot on, witty, and entertaining for the Fashion Shows held there. You knew Diana was in the room, at a glance, by the many stylish and unique hats that would adorn her most days. The most notable attribute about Diana Stonitsch was her love for people, and the human connection she made the minute you met. It was as if you had been friends for years, not just a few minutes. The last thought Diana would want to leave you with is life is meant to be celebrated. She would want you to make the same human connection with those around you, as the love of the human spirit is fulfilling. Her family would like to thank the special friends and medical professionals who have shared their care, support and prayers for her through the years. A celebration of Diana Stonitsch's life will be Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 Woodlawn Avenue Joliet, IL 60435 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 until time of services at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
