Obituary of Josephine Mary Slejko

Age 96, passed away peacefully, Saturday August 27, 2016 at Senior Star at Weber Place. She was born March 20, 1920 to the late Anna (nee Finc) and Anton Slejko in Rockdale, IL where she resided most all of her life. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brothers, Anton (Mary) Slejko, Loddy (Bess) Slejko, and Leon Slejko; and sisters, Ann (John) Bozich and Ernie (John) Giacometti. Survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Slejko; her nieces and nephews, Barbara Slejko Donisch, Cenka (Michael) Kaminski, Stephen Bozich, Russell Giacometti and George (Laura) Slejko. Many great nieces, great nephews as well as a grand niece and grand nephew also survive. Josephine "Jo" was fondly known as Miss Slejko to the many students she, "had the privilege of teaching," in her 43 year career. Josephine felt that each day on earth was a gift. She served as an inspiration and positive role model to her students, family and friends. Funeral services for Josephine M. Slejko will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Pershing Grade School Library would be appreciated. Visitation Wednesday morning, 9:30 a.m. until the services begin at the funeral home.
