Obituary of Joseph J. Hischier

Joseph J. Hischier Age 77, of Shorewood, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born December 4, 1938 in Joliet, and a life long Joliet area resident. A graduate of Joliet Catholic High School. A U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He retired from Sheffield Steel after over 32 years of service and was formerly employed and very active with American Legion Harwood Post #5. A former member of the Ravens A.C. Back in the early days, he was a baseball coach at St. Joes Park and loved to play competetive softball. Preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Mary (nee Mahoney) Hischier; and his parents, Joseph and Lillian (nee Gatons-Goodson) Hischier. Survived by two daughters, Cynthia Hischier of Shorewood, and Christine (Adam) Phillips of Goose Lake; one son, Craig Hischier of Joliet; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dan (Lynn) Hischier of Joliet, James (Darlene) Hischier of New Lenox and Paul (June) Hischier of Joliet. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Family and friends are to meet Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 1:45 p.m. directly at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 West Hoff Road, Elwood, IL 60421 where full military honors will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. under the auspices of the United States Army. As it was Joseph's wish, cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials to defray final expenses to his family would be appreciated. Fred C.
