Obituary of Virginia L. Cheek

Virginia L. Cheek Wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on October 18, 2016. She was born in Joliet to the late Eugene and Loretta Koehl on December 11, 1920. Virginia will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit. Gifted and talented, she enjoyed her volunteering services to Hospice and Shepard's Table. Her gifts of faith in God, love and laughter gave all who knew her much to celebrate. Virginia leaves her legacy of love to her children, Caryl (James) Sorensen, the late Richard, Christine (James) Hammerlund, David (Carla) Cheek, and Colleen (Russell) Clark. She leaves 13 grandchildren, Kevin and Shannon Sorensen, James, Leslie (Kischer) and Patrick Hammerlund, David, Erin and Matthew Cheek, Sarah Cheek, and Nicholas, Alex, Colin and Amanda Clark, and many more relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Cheek; son, Richard and siblings, Kathryn (late Robert) Kaffer, Edward (late Doris) Koehl, Mary Jane (late Jack) Walters and Eugene (late Virginia) Koehl. Family and friends are invited to a Mass celebrating her life on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus where all friends and relatives are invited to gather from 9:00 a.m. until her Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Joliet Area Community Hospice or Shepard's Table would be appreciated.
