Obituary of Bertha M. Fisher

Fisher, Bertha M. (nee Matucha) Age 97. went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 in Shorewood,IL. Born in Tipton, IA on March 25, 1919, she grew up in Spirit Lake, IA. She then moved to the Chicago area to work as a stenographer for United Airlines. She met her husband Rudy on a blind date on Pearl Harbor Day and they married the following Valentines Day, February 14, 1942. She was a member of the Berwyn United Methodist Church and involved in PTA. After raising their 5 children in Berwyn, IL, she worked at MacNeal Hospital and Penney's. 15 years ago she moved to Joliet and became a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she enjoyed the fellowship of her new church family. Bertha, always the busy lady, liked to socialize with family and friends, sew cloths, play piano and organ for her church and at home, bake and share her creations with family, neighbors, and friends, watch her game shows, play rummy and dominos, and go shopping. She liked to dress nice and always got compliments on what she wore. She enjoyed the companionship of the many cats she owned (or owned her) over the years. Bertha was young at heart and will be remembered for her smile and laughter. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. Survived by two sons, Richard (Janet) of Naperville and David Fisher of Joliet; three daughters, Mary (Bill) Craig of Minneapolis, MN., Nancy (Dennis) Babcock of Peoria, AZ. and Sally (Dennis) Planic of Shorewood and former daughter-in-law Marlene Drygalski; eight grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and first great-grandchild girl on the way that she was looking forward to. Preceded by her beloved husband, Rudolph Fisher (1997); her parents, Yaro and Bertha (nee Campbell) Matucha; five brothers and two sisters of which she was the youngest. Visitation Monday 4-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL. Funeral services for Bertha M. Fisher will be Tuesday, January 3, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 1718 Avalon St., Joliet. She will lie-in-state from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
