Obituary of Mary Dragatsis

Mary Dragatsis (nee Kallas) Age 80. Passed away peacefully January 3, 2017 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 25, 1936 to the late Anna and James Kallas in Chicago, IL where she was raised and educated, a graduate of Fenger High School. She married Christo M. Dragatsis on June 29, 1958 at St. Spyridion Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago and had resided in Joliet since marriage. In addition to her husband of 58 years, she is also survived by her daughters and sons, Ann Dragatsis, Stacey Neese, Mathew (Evelyn) Dragatsis and James (Stephanie) Dragatsis; grandchildren, Christopher and Kyle Neese; Christo and Marina Dragatsis; Anastasia, Alexa and Caroline Dragatsis; sister-in-law, Katherine (nee Dragatsis) Diemer and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Frank (in infancy), Peter (late Marguerite), George (late Grace), Louis and Nicholas Kallas. Mary, a devout Greek Orthodox Christian, thoroughly enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for all the family gatherings. She was a former Sunday School Teacher and active member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, the Philoptochos Society, the Daughters of Penelope and the Mykonos Society. Longtime volunteer at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center who enjoyed crafts in her free time. The Dragatsis family will forever be grateful to Mary Hanson and Melody St. Germain for their friendship and excellent care afforded their beloved wife, mother and yia-yia. Funeral Services for Mary Dragatsis will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2016 at 10:45 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway St., Joliet where services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Service. Interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund or Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
