Donald Dean Walden, Sr.

Age 86, a lifetime Joliet resident, passed at home surrounded by his family on Saturday May 20, 2017.  He was born January 15, 1931 to the late Grace (nee Deutschman) and Elmer Walden and attended Joliet Grade Schools, Joliet Township High School and Joliet Junior College. A United States Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War.  He retired from Illinois Bell (Ameritech) after 37 years of service.

Beloved husband of 57 years to Carol (nee Clemans); loving father of Brian (Lisa) Walden and Don (Dena) Walden, Jr.  Proud grandfather of Colin and Tyler Walden.

He was an active lifetime member of American Legion Post #1080 where he served as Commander on seven different occasions and was also a member of the Legion Band Color Guard.  He volunteered for many local causes and held memberships in various clubs and organizations including the Port Authority of Lewis University Airport, City of Joliet Planning Commission,  the Board of Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, VFW Cantigny Post #367, Will County Project Pride (Chairman), the Associated Clubs of Will County, D.A.V., A.L.R., V.A.C. and S.A.L.  Don also was a Troy Township Trustee for over 30 years and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

As it was Don's wish, cremation rites have been accorded.  All friends and relatives are invited to gather on Thursday May 25, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church, 1718 Avalon Ave. (at Larkin Ave) in Joliet from 9:30 a.m. until his Memorial Service begins at 10:30 a.m.  Inurnment with honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Don's name to Joliet Area Community Hospice, American Legion Post #1080 or Grace United Methodist Church would be appreciated.
