Evelyn Dorothy Starner
(nee Andrews)

Evelyn Starner, age 98, late of the Timbers of Shorewood, and a lifelong Joliet resident, passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Timbers.

Born October 25, 1918 in Joliet, she was the daughter of Joshua and Savina (nee Chadwick) Andrews.  She attended A. O. Marshall Grade School, Joliet Township High School, and was a graduate of Pestalozzi-Froebel Teachers College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.

Evelyn began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse, and later taught many years in the New Lenox School district until her retirement.  She was an active and generous supporter of Ingalls Park United Methodist Church, Joliet Area Community Hospice, Habitat for Humanity, and the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic, and enjoyed being a hospital volunteer.

Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.  She will be remembered for her pleasant personality, her beautiful smile, and her unwavering support of the Chicago Cubs.

Surviving are her devoted children, Kay (Leonard) Kaster of Palos Hills, and Jay (Michele) Starner of New Lenox; four grandchildren, Erica Kaster, Mark (Mallory) Kaster, Aaron (Erin) Starner and Lindsay Starner; one great-grandson, Ethan Schopp; two nephews, Barry Spiers and Craig (Jacquie) Spiers; and one niece Debbie Spiers.
 
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Starner (November 22, 1990); her father, Joshua Andrews; her mother Savina Andrews Thomas; and one sister, Mariellen Spiers.

Cremation rites will be accorded and services will be private.  Fred C.
