Obituary of Helen F. Pope

Helen F. Pope
(nee Scogin)

Age 88. Peacefully Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Morris Hospital following a brief battle with an infection, with her family by her side she transitioned from this life to the next.

Born in Peoria, IL and a long time Satsuma, FL, and Lockport, IL resident before relocating to Morris, IL 5 years ago.  Retired from GAF as a bookkeeper after many years of service.  Formerly employed at Yellowstone National Park. She and her husband would pack up for the summer and camp out and work all summer long for 20 summers.

Preceded by her parents; two sisters, Pauline Bowers and Doris Toon; two brothers, Donald and Carl Scogin.

Survived by her loving husband of 68 years Eugene “Gene” Pope of Morris.  Two sons, David (Kathy) Pope of Ashkum, IL and Steven (Kim) Pope of Alton, IL; two daughters, Linda (Ralph) Barajas of Morris and Nancy (David) Darling of Kirkville, MO. Twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.  Three sisters Carol (Roger) Massow of Plainfield, Mildred Murray and Shirley (Jim) Bose of  Dallas, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

As it was Helen’s request, a private service of remembrance was held.  As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded.  In lieu of flowers memorials in her name to the Morris Hospital Division of Transportation would be appreciated.  Arrangements entrusted to the care of Fred C.
