Age 83, of Morris, IL passed away Monday September 4, 2017 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Carol Angeline was born at home in Chicago, IL on April 12, 1934 to Nicholas and Lucille Cerceo. She was the oldest of three children. Carol has 1 sister, Joan and 1 brother, Nicholas. Her father worked as a polisher and buffer at that time, and her mother stayed home to raise the children.

At the age of 81, she remembers as a child her and her siblings loved to roller-skate. They would go to, “The Planet” and “The Swank” located on 111th and Western. During skating breaks they would take off their skates and dance on the floor barefooted. It was such a great time, which they were able to go if their
chores were done.

Carol’s dad’s specialty was making homemade pizza. He made a variety of Cheese, sausage, canadian bacon and anchovy. They were so delicious he made them for the neighbors. At night, the family would sit around the radio and listen to Joe Lewis and Tommy Conn boxing and other programs such as Morris B. Sacks and Arthur Godfrey.

Carol attended Raster Grammar School for 8 years, Harper High School for 2 years and graduated from Jones Commercial Business School after 4 years. Her very first job was babysitting at the age of 13. When she was a young adult, she worked at Hillman’s Grocery Store located under the Sears building on 63rd and Halsted in the candy department. She also worked at Chicago City Bank & Trust in the auditing department. At the same time, she made signs at the Dime Store where she met her future husband, Ewald Kubina, who worked as a stock boy. After dating for awhile they enjoyed each other so much they married in 1953. They loved going to shows, dances, roller skating, and restaurants, which Ewald was a steak and potato kind of guy and Carol liked a variety of foods. Their favorite place to go was, The Marquette and Nielsons O’ Henrys which was a night club with dancing and plays. They were very fancy and elegant places.
