Elida R. Gutierrez
Age 87, late of Essington Place in Joliet, IL passed away peacefully Friday, September, 8, 2017 in Sandwich, IL. She was born December 15, 1929 in San Manuel, Texas to the late Petra (nee Guerrero) and Domingo Reyes. Elida and her late husband, Jose, resided in Chicago and then Bensenville, IL from 1956 until 1994 when they moved to Edinburg, Texas. Elida recently returned to Illinois to be near her son and family.
She was the beloved mother of Ernesto (Joyce) Mendoza of Mendota, IL; loving grandmother of Mick, Phillip (Tracy), April (Ken), Lee (Michelle), Marisa (Luke) Angelica (Forrest) and Cristal (Emanuel); and proud great-grandmother of Jade, Eric, Alyssa, Joe, Grace, Nick, Nathaniel and Rosie. Many extended family members and relatives also survive.
Elida was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Gutierrez and brother, David Reyes.
Elida retired from the banking industry after many years of serving Sears Bank in Chicago, IL, then Uni Bank, a division of Mellon Bank, out of Pittsburgh, PA. Her family recalls how happy it made Elida that Mellon flew her to Pittsburgh for an appreciation event because of her dedicated service.
Her most joyful times were spent with family. She was a woman of faith who enjoyed crocheting and bingo. A member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Elida will be remembered fondly for providing neighborhood kids with "gifts from the heart", her kind spirit and demeanor, and the love and care she put into her famous tamales she would share with all.
Funeral services for Elida Gutierrez will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL with Brother Ed Arambasich officiating. Visitation will take place later Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Elida will be returning home to Edinburg, TX where her final earthly remains will be interred alongside those of her late husband's at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. where committal prayers and burial will be held.
