Frances Macris

Obituary of Frances N. Macris

Frances N. Macris
“Fran”
(nee Cookas)

Age 97, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born July 26, 1920 in Joliet and was a lifelong Joliet area resident.

Fran was a social and active woman who was deeply involved in her community.  She previously served as the president for both the Women's Club of Joliet and the Pershing School PTA.  She also was a coordinator of volunteers for the American Red Cross and a member of the Silver Cross Hospital Advisory Board, volunteering many hours at the Encore Shop and member of the Hospitality Club.  Fran was a devoted lifelong member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the Parish Council, the church choir, and Daughters of Penelope.

Being married to a Naval Officer, and having two sons and a grandson as Officers, Fran actively supported her men in uniform and their professional careers.  The word that best summarizes Fran’s life is LOVE.  She selflessly devoted her life to her family and many friends.

Surviving are two sons, Dean (Margaret) Macris of Mystic, CT and Nicholas (Kathy) Macris of Joliet; four grandchildren, Sophia Macris, Constantine (Deanna) Macris, Harrison Macris and Maria Frances Macris; two great grandchildren, Annika Macris and Lucia Macris; one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Cookas of Joliet; one goddaughter, Michele Polvere; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, Constantine A. Macris (1982); her parents, Nicholas and Catherine (nee Kapellas) Cookas; and her siblings, Irene (William) Booras, George Cookas (in infancy), Mitchell (Betty) Cookas, and Alexander Cookas.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Timbers of Shorewood, Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home and Dr. Abdul Sankari for their kind and compassionate care.
