Joan Drew Rogers

Age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home surrounded by her loving family.  Joan was born on November 25, 1930, to the union of James and Florence (nee Powers) Drew.   She grew up in Springfield, Illinois and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and attended Joliet Junior College.  She met the love of her life; John R. Rogers, and they were married on June 18, 1955 at St. Ferdinard Catholic Church, Chicago, Illinois. They relocated to Joliet in 1962 where they raised their family.   Joan was very involved with the Sacred Heart Parish in Joliet. She served on several committees and helped start their soup kitchen. She was in the Joliet Woman Club, Woman of the Rotary and served as president. She received the De Salle award from Lewis University.

Joan is survived by her loving husband John “Jack” R. Rogers; her five children, John (Sue Swider) Rogers, Maureen “Mo” (Lee) Kelly, Terence (Jo Ann) Rogers, Timothy (Jakki) Rogers, and Mary Jo (John) Mackniskas; grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Swider-Rogers, Bridget Miller, Chris (Meghan) Miller, Sean (Fiance Keagan Kristoff)  Miller,  Andrew,  Joseph, Jack and Ryan Rogers, Patrick and Douglas Rogers and Kyle and Aidan Mackniskas; step grandchildren, Heather (Matthew) VonHolten, Joshua (Sarah) Bull, Kevin (Jordan) Bull, Corinne (Andrew) Garcia, and Jason Mackniskas; great grandchildren, Parker and Colten Miller; step great grandchildren, Mason and Roman Bull; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.

She is preceded by her parents; two sisters, Elinor Maurer and Louise O’Connor; and one brother, James Drew.

The family wishes to thank the staff and George Block at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home for the fine care and consideration given to Joan since August 2014.

Funeral services for Joan Drew Rogers will be on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads, Joliet, Illinois to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, 1201 Wyoming Avenue, Joliet, IL 60435 or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 337 S.
