Glen Clarence Dykhuizen, age 66, at rest, peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2017 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
 
Formerly of River Grove, Chicago, and Plainfield, Glen was born in Oak Park, Illinois on February 12, 1951 to the late Clarence and Josephine (nee Klopack) Dykhuizen.
 
Glen attended John F. Kennedy High School, Chicago, Illinois, and Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois where he studied engineering. He also studied aviation at the Southwest Branch of the Chicago City Colleges (now Richard J. Daley College), Chicago, Illinois.
 
Glen was employed with Reliable Fire and Security System as an Electrical Service Technician. He was an avid reader who knew a little something about everything.  He enjoyed aviation, the shooting sports, volleyball, fishing and bowling and was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Illinois Rifle Association.  
 
Survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Patricia (nee Romanoski) Dykhuizen; his children, Adam Dykhuizen of Joliet, Ellen (Christopher) Ramirez of Joliet, Claire (Aaron) Somerville of Leander, TX, Peter Dykhuizen (fiancé Kyra Sloane) of Clarkston, MI, Henry and JoAnna Dykhuizen of Joliet; grandchildren, Benjamin, Veronica, Cecilia and Paulina Ramirez; sisters, Rita Johnson of Naperville, IL and Joan Kindle (Wilson Klassen) of Glenview, IL; two brothers-in-law, Joseph (Michelle) Romanoski of Perth, Australia and Michael (Dolly) Romanoski of Washington Twp., MI.; one sister-in-law, Marie (Raymond) Piet of Frisco, TX; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Tahara Dykhuizen, and brothers-in-law, Gregg Kindle and George Romanoski.
 
Glen will be remembered fondly and foremost, as an honorable man who was loved and respected by all who knew him.
 
Funeral services for Glen C. Dykhuizen will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 8:45 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale, IL, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.  Interment will follow at Risen Lord Cemetery in Oswego, IL.  In lieu of flowers, Masses or memorials in his name to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.  Visitation will be Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 4:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  For more information, please call (815) 741-5500 or visit his Memorial Tribute at www.fredcdames.com
