Betty A. Stukel
(nee Garland)
Age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Joliet, the daughter of the late Clark and Frances (nee Humbert) Garland and was a lifelong area resident. Betty retired from the dental office of Nicholas Grabavoy, D.D.S. after 15 years of dedicated service. She was previously employed by the Joliet Area YMCA and Joliet School District #86. A devout Catholic, Betty was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and an avid bingo player. Betty was blessed and blessed others with a remarkable 90 years of giving and sharing her joy and love.
Betty is survived by her seven children, Elizabeth “Beth” (Joseph) Bonczalski, Robert J. Stukel, Mary (David) Grossklaus, James (Sally) Stukel, Diana (Scott) Glidewell, Michael (Michelle) Stukel and John (Cindy) Stukel; grandchildren, Christopher Johnke, Kimberly Garcia, Robert Stukel, Jr., Jason Stukel, Loni Fazio, Daniel Grossklaus, Bradley Stukel, David Stukel, Bryan Glidewell, Jake Glidewell, Samuel Stukel, Nickolas Stukel, Ryan Borgra, Codi Stukel, and Alyssa Stukel; great grandchildren, Alexis Johnke, Haley Garcia, Giana Fazio, Aubriana Fazio, Emery Borgra, Evelyn Borgra, Ayden Glidewell, Peyton Stukel, Gunnar Stukel, Aiden Stukel, Renee Stukel, Emma Stukel, Bradley Stukel, Alaina Stukel, Faith Stukel and Braydon Stukel; one sister, Norma M. (Donald) Ahlberg; brothers, George (Barbara) Garland and Don (Judy) Garland; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded by her beloved husband and best friend of 34 years, Robert E. Stukel (1985); her parents; one sister, Doris M. Garland; four brothers, John G. (Dollie) Garland, Clark H. (Bernie) Garland, William J. (Alice) Garland and Edward J. Garland; special friends, sister-in-law, Bernie Garland and brother-in-law, Donald Ahlberg.
Funeral Services for Betty A. Stukel will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at 9:15 a.m., from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, to St. Bernard Catholic Church, Sterling and High Sts., Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials in her name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
