Obituary of Grace Gnadinger

Grace T. Gnadinger
(nee Peacock)

Age 87, of Joliet, IL, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Salem Village Retirement Home.  She was born April 7, 1930, to the late Mabel (nee Trueman) and Stephen Peacock in Murray Corner, New Brunswick, Canada.

Grace was a dedicated registered nurse whose career spanned well over five decades.  She trained and received her RN certificate in Canada at Montreal General Hospital.  She served countless patients at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center and also at the office of Dr. Leo Wrona until retirement.  Grace’s compassion and genuine care of all she knew lasted her lifetime.

Beloved mother of James (Peggy) Tuplin, Jean (Peter) Lykow, Marguerite Gnadinger (fiancée Lee Gawelczyk) and John J. (Lisa) Gnadinger; loving grandmother of  Brian Tuplin, Isaac Tuplin, Martha (Brian) Kim, Stephen Tuplin, Christine Lykow, Peter “PJ” (Giselle) Lykow, Antonya (Mathieu) Lagace, Mikolai Lykow (fiancé Nicola), John F. Gnadinger and Matthew J. Gnadinger; proud great-grandmother of Aiden, Charlie and Evelyn Kim, Nathaniel Lykow, Triss Lykow, and Lydia and Nora Lagace; and dear sister of David (Joyce) Peacock and Eva (late Gerald) Walton.  Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Isobel, Mildred and Willa Peacock, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Isaac L. Tuplin; second husband, the Hon. John F. Gnadinger; and her brothers, Robert Peacock, Joseph Howe Peacock and Henry Peacock.

Grace was a long-time active member of First Presbyterian Church of Joliet and JACOB.  She enjoyed delivering “Meals on Wheels” and could always be counted on to donate blood.  Other interests included hiking and swimming.

The family of Grace Gnadinger will always remember the staff of Salem Village (fourth floor) and Joliet Area Community Hospice for the excellent care and kindness shown to Grace throughout her stay.

As it was Grace’s request, cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service is being planned for early spring.  An announcement will be published later.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to First Presbyterian Church or Joliet Area Community Hospice.  Fred C. Dames Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  For more information, please call (815) 741-5500 or visit her Memorial Tribute at www.fredcdames.com
