Obituary of Lina R. Thomas
At the age of 88, Lina R. Thomas, of Shorewood, formerly of Bolingbrook, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Lina was born on May 22, 1929 in Chicago, to Massimiliano and Angela (nee Menegazzo) Salvador. She married the love of her life, Robert F. Thomas, on October 1, 1960 and they built a loving home together for their family.
Lina was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood, and a former parishioner of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bolingbrook, where she spent many years in the Council of Catholic Women. She loved playing bingo, enjoyed taking trips to the Casino, and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. Above all, Lina was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always put her family first and was a beloved friend to many.
Lina is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Robert F. Thomas; her loving children, Elizabeth (Tim) Poffenbarger, Karen (Tom) McEvilly, Christine (Cary) Morris, Pati (Gene) Mardegan, Brenda (Dave) Leibfritz, David, and Joyce (Jeff) Oltendorf; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, John (Phyllis) Thomas. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Joseph (Mary) Salvador, Pierina (Rino) Pucci, and Egidio Salvador.

Funeral Services for Lina R. Thomas will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL to Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brook Forest Ave, Shorewood, IL, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Make-A-Wish Foundation, or Special Olympics, would be appreciated.
