Obituary of Bernard Zepplin Malnar

Bernard Zepplin Malnar

Age 90, passed away Friday, November 9, 2018, at his home in Joliet, surrounded by his loving family.  Born October 15, 1928 in Joliet, IL, to the late Edmond and Frances (nee Mandel) Malnar, he was a lifelong Joliet area resident.

Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carole M. (nee Kochevar) Malnar; son, Garry (Paula) Malnar; daughter, Valerie (Richard) Pasteris; four grandchildren, Julie (Jonathan) Cooper, Laura Malnar; Jessica (Zachary) Barr and Michael Pasteris; one great-grandchild, Anika; brother-in-law, Robert Kochevar and sister-in-law, Jean Konrad, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Olga (late George) Boban, Sylvia Malnar and Raymond (late Gloria) Malnar.

Mr. Malnar retired from Holy Family Society after serving the community many years.  He was previously employed by Swift Meats.  His hobbies included golf and rooting for the Chicago Cubs.

Mr. Malnar derived his unusual middle name through an exciting occurrence over the Joliet skies.  On the day he was born the Zepplin blimp flew overhead, inspiring his parents to declare that Zepplin must be included in his name.
