Michael Kelly

Obituary of Michael Joseph Kelly

Michael Joseph Kelly, age 68, of Plainfield, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Northwestern University Medical Center, Chicago, with his loving family by his side.

Born August 18, 1952 in Chicago, to the late James and Caroline (Kruzel) Kelly, he was raised in the neighborhood around West 59th and South Kedzie, attended St. Gall’s Catholic Church, and was a graduate of St. Laurence High School.  He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and his Master’s degree from Roosevelt University.  He enjoyed a highly successful career in management and was Vice President of Production for Home Run Inn.  He was a member of St. Mary Immaculate Parish in Plainfield for the past 25 years.

A wonderful and unselfish husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and uncle, he will be remembered for his jolly personality, his distinctive laugh, and his ability to make everyone around him laugh as well.  Mike was larger than life, a hero to his family, and an outstanding role model for his grandchildren.  He was true to his beliefs, always leading by example, and encouraging his family, friends and co-workers to always do better and to not pay attention to what others say or think.

Michael loved hockey, having played for the former University of Illinois at Chicago Flames, and in our hearts and in our lives will always be “our sixth man on the ice.”

Surviving are his beloved wife of 45 years, Theresa A. (Jennings) Kelly; four devoted children, Matthew Kelly of Baltimore, MD, Michele Rosine of Plainfield, Denise (Shaun) Khan of Plainfield, and Diane (Walter) Frank of Joliet; and seven loving grandchildren, Kelly, Natalie, Holly and Kyle Rosine, Derek Khan. Cameron Frank and Lily Patriquin.  He was also the fond brother of Robert (Cheryl) Kelly of Palos Hills, Patricia Beattie of Lockport, Nellie (Dick) Hemming of Wisconsin, and the late Donna Chaffee; and dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.
