My aunt Maria (Tia) was very special to our family. I remember often arriving at my mom's and hearing them talking on the phone. Later in life she and I would visit over the phone leaving me with many precious memories. Most memorable though is a memory from my childhood. You see, as a very young boy, I was terrified of being in the ocean. That is until one summer when the entire Fernandez family went to Miami Beach (70's) and Tia (in her soft reassuring voice) persuaded me to let her carry me into the water up to her shoulders. Once there we just talked and she would occasionally reassure me. That experience broke my fear of entering the ocean. I am missing her voice, but I praise God for the memories. May we all always remain happier for her than sad for us. To my cousins, I am saddened for your loss and am praying for you.
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
Num 6:24-26.
