Helen Jean Starling was born March 25, 1950 in Mississippi to Mildred Bender and George Carmichael.
In her early years, Helen grew up in Laurel Mississippi where she began her education. While in high school she decided to stop school, leave Mississippi, and moved to Joliet, Illinois. She later received her GED and eventually completed the basic nursing assistant program at Joliet Junior College. She was a union factory worker and eventually became a Union Steward. She was known to strike up a conversation with anyone and took pride in sharing her opinions on current events, politics, and music. Helen was known for her cooking! She loved to cook large meals, often trying new recipes to share with family and friends. She will be remembered for her sense of style, she loved expressing herself from home decorating to clothes and jewelry. On November 11, 2022, Helen passed on leaving behind many who loved her, she will be missed!
Helen was preceded in death by her Father, George Carmichael; Sister, Ruby (Oliver) Breland; Brother, Clinton “Rabbit” Carmichael and Johnny Lewis Carmichael.
She leaves to cherish her memories Mom, Mildred Carmichael; Sons, Lorenzo(Katia) Carmichael and Rashad(Crystal) Starling; Grandchildren, Lorenzo Brown, Takea Simmons, Jarvis(Elizabeth) Carmichael, Malik Carmichael, Donald Manning, Jalen Starling, Christopher Starling, and Great Grandson, Jarvis Carmichael Jr.; Brothers, George Carmichael, Earlvin “Carl” Carmichael, James R. Carmichael; Sisters, Annie Ruth Dobbins, Annice Carmichael, Angela “Ann” Carmichael, and Carolyn Greene.
Visitation for Helen Jean Starling will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery, Joliet, IL.
