Obituary of John A. Phelan

John A. Phelan, age 63, of Seneca, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April, 12, 2026, at home. John was born in Joliet, IL to the late Paul and Margaret (Leake) Phelan and he was a resident of Seneca the past 43 years. John was a graduate of Dwight High School with the Class of 1980. He was a lifelong local area farmer. A volunteer for the Verona/Kinsman Fire Department, formerly serving as Chief, Sheridan Rod and Gun Club (former president), Ducks Unlimited, Grundy and LaSalle Counties Farm Bureau.

John is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Kathy (Odum) Phelan of Seneca; his son, Jeremy (Shelley) Green of Ransom; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Matt (Becki) Phelan of Braidwood and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Preceded by his parents; grandparents; his sister, Mary Kruger and brother, Mark Phelan.

Visitation for John A. Phelan will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 at Deerpath Drive in Morris. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 219 Emmett Street, Kinsman, IL 60437. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Ransom, IL.
