

Obituary of Guadalupe Barrientes
Age 68, of Joliet, suddenly passed away, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. Guadalupe was born on November 27, 1957, in Hereford, Texas to the late Juan Barrientes and Concepcion “Concha” Garcia.
Guadalupe began her career for the Illinois Department of Human Services as a clerk. After 30+ years of dedication and hard work, Guadalupe retired as a supervisor. Guadalupe was a member of Iglesia Asamblea de Dios Bethania in Joliet, where she actively served and participated in numerous retreats. She had a strong devotion to her faith and cherished her church community.
In her free time, she could be found crocheting or playing Bingo. Guadalupe never passed up a good shopping trip. She always enjoyed adding new clothes and shoes to her constantly growing collection. Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her family. Guadalupe treasured the time she spent with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were the center of her world and together they shared many precious memories.
Guadalupe is survived by her beloved daughter, Rose Marie Garcia; eight adoring grandchildren, Brianna, Rozanna, Jasena, Isabel, Xavian, Santino, Samira, and Hayley; five loving great-grandchildren, Sophia, Jermaine, Gabriella, Lawrence, and Nova; her dear sister, Cindy (Carlos) Ovilla; and numerous family and friends, including her best friend of over 50 years, Cindy Lesa.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan Barrientes and Concepcion “Concha” Garcia; her son, Efrain “Rico” Garcia; two brothers, Arnulfo and Robert Barrientes; her longtime companion and father of her children, Frank Garcia, Jr.; and many aunts and uncles.
Visitation for Guadalupe Barrientes will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. Joliet, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 6:00 p.m. Per her request, cremation rites will be accorded following services.
