Obituary of Candice L. Bodine
Candice L. “Candy” Bodine
Candice L. Bodine, age 77, of Coal City, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Lightways Hospice Home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 20, 1948 in Dover, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Robert and Helen (nee Denness) Wershing. She spent most of her high school years living in a stone historical church in Johnsonburg, NJ (in the past Log-Gaol) that was built in the early 1700’s that was converted into a house.
Candice especially loved making holiday crafts, with Christmas being her favorite. She enjoyed ancestry and genealogy research and loved playing euchre, even winning a couple of tournaments over the years. She and her husband enjoyed traveling to car shows together and across the country to the mountainous part of Jersey where they grew up. She also loved shopping with her close friend Pat Atchison. Candice was a devoted fan of Wayne Newton and Willie Nelson, and was a huge baseball fan who faithfully cheered on her beloved Chicago White Sox. She had a special love for miniature poodles like her mother, and cherished her beloved dog, Sadie.
Candice is survived by her husband of 56 years, Daniel; children, Bradley (Jessica), and Bryan (Katie) Bodine; grandchildren, Aiden, Elliot, Paige, and Ronan; brother, Robert Wershing; and aunt “sister”, Patricia Castro living in California.
