Obituary of April Nelson-Kotlar

April Lynn Nelson-Kotlar

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and friend, April Lynn (Strick) Nelson-Kotlar, who passed away at the age of 57 in Ottawa.

April was born on April 1, 1969, in Tinley Park and spent the last eight years of her life in Ottawa, where she built a home filled with laughter, love, and friendship.

April was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Michael, and a proud mother to her three children, Bryan, Adam, and Cassandra. She was also a loving grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. Whether sitting outside with Michael and visiting with neighbors or opening her home to family and friends, April made everyone feel welcome and cared for.

Known by many as “Mom,” April had a heart big enough for anyone in need. She was always there with advice, comfort, a helping hand, or a laugh when someone needed it most. Her humor and playful spirit could brighten even the hardest days, and she had a special way of making people feel like family.

April spent much of her life waitressing, a job she truly loved because it allowed her to connect with people. Her customers meant so much to her, and many became lifelong friends through her kindness and warm personality.

Holidays at April’s home were unforgettable. She loved celebrating outdoors, cooking for everyone, and making sure no one left hungry. Her greatest joy was bringing people together, sharing meals, laughter, and memories that will live on forever.

April was preceded in death by her father, Richard, and her sister, Sandra.

She is survived by her loving mother, Carole (Termine) Strick; her husband, Michael; her children, Bryan (Mary Aguilar), Adam (Kayla Hyzy), and Cassandra (Timmy Henson); her sisters, Chris (Bill) Fischer and Cindy (Randy) Auringer; her cherished grandchildren; and many extended family members, neighbors, and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.

April will be remembered for her loving heart, generous spirit, endless humor, and the way she made everyone around her feel important and loved. She leaves behind countless memories that her family and friends will treasure always.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

As it was April’s wish cremation rites will be accorded. A private gathering will be held for her family at a later date. For more information please call (815) 942-5040 or visit her Memorial Tribute at www.fredcdames.com where you can share a favorite memory or leave a condolence.
