Obituary of Kunigunde Piazza

Kunigunde E. Piazza, a loving and devoted wife, mom, and oma, age 82, of Crest Hill, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 16, 1944 in Germany, the daughter of the late Andreas and Elisabeth (nee Maul) Baer. She met, and three years later, married the love of her life in her hometown of  Edelsfeld, Germany on June 30, 1962.

 Kunigunde was deeply devoted to her family and was a proud and dedicated Army wife throughout her life. She found great joy tending to her yard and caring for her beautiful flowers. With her strong spirit and pride in heritage, she would often say “Deutsch and Army Strong”

Kunigunde is survived by her husband, Retired Army Major Frank D. Piazza; children, Frank (Sandy) Piazza and Elisabeth (Randy) Morgan; grandchildren, Devon Buhmann, Matthew (Briana) Piazza, Logan (Opal) Morgan, Mindy (Dave) Piazza- Farrar, and Mark Piazza; great-granddaughter, Lovelynn; and brother, Fritz (Else) Baer.

As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services.
