Obituary of Thomas L. Bakke
Age 81, of Lemont, Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Lemont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on January 25, 1945, in Loomis, Wisconsin to Barney and Irene (Holland) Bakke of Loomis.
Thomas grew up in Marinette, WI and graduated from Marinette High School in 1964. He then moved to Milwaukee, WI seeking employment opportunities. Soon after moving, he decided to move to Chicago, IL where he found employment at the electric company, Commonwealth Edison. He worked in customer service from 1967 to 1995, when he decided to retire. After retirement, Thomas worked part time at Macy’s and volunteered at Brookfield Zoo.
Though Thomas moved to Chicago he spent much of his free time back in the Marinette area with family and friends. He had many close friends throughout work and his life in general. He loved to cook and hosted countless holiday dinners with family and friends. Thomas also enjoyed traveling. He made trips to Canada, Hawaii, Europe, and specifically Norway, where he met a few relatives on his father’s side of the family. He also made it out to the west coast a few times to visit his favorite sister and nieces. Beloved Uncle to the lucky eight, he also had many great and great-great nieces and nephews. His smile and sense of humor will be missed by all.
Thomas is survived by his sister, Marilyn (Calvin) Hickey and sister-in-law, Florence (Loren) Bakke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Loren; and younger sister, Marlene.
A Memorial Service for Thomas L. Bakke will be held at Christian Reformed Church, 12410 S. Vandyke Rd. Plainfield, Illinois at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
Inurnment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Crivitz, Wisconsin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
