Obituary of Susan M. Padilla

Susan M. Padilla, age 55, of Shorewood, IL, previously of Oak Lawn, IL, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Edward Hospital, Naperville, IL.  She was born April 30, 1971 in Oak Lawn, IL.

Susan grew up in Oak Lawn and was a proud graduate of Queen of Peace High School in Burbank. Throughout her life, she devoted herself to caring for others, working as a caregiver for many families. However, her most meaningful role was caring for her beloved mother, her children, and later, her cherished grandchildren. Susan found the greatest joy in spending time with her family, always making herself available to help watch and care for all four of her grandchildren, whom she loved deeply.

Susan had a personality that could never be forgotten. She was sarcastic, witty, funny, and completely genuine.  She was “real” in every sense of the word. She gave the best advice, always spoke honestly, and had a way of making people feel understood and cared for. A hardworking single mother, Susan made countless sacrifices to ensure her children never went without anything. She was not only their mother, but also their best friend and biggest supporter. Her charm and quick wit were unmatched; as her family lovingly says, “She could sell a car salesman his own car.”

She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, especially playing Lotteria, doing nails, and making memories with her children and grandchildren. Above all else, family meant everything to Susan. While her loss is deeply felt, her children find comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her loving mother, Mary Rayhorn, whom she missed dearly.

She is survived by her loving life-long partner, Scott Bulow; four children, Mark Padilla, Mandi (Manny) Padilla, Matthew Padilla, and Madison Padilla; grandchildren, Elliana  & Elaya Garcia , Daniel James Padilla, and Ava Hansen; father, Ralph (Patty) Padilla; brother, James (Hannah) Rayhorn; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved mother and stepfather who raised her, Mary and James Rayhorn, Sr.
