Obituary of Barbara Doreen Konopasek

The family of Barbara Doreen Konopasek (Sloat) of Plainfield, IL, is saddened to announce her passing on Monday, June 15, 2026, at the age of 81. 

Barbara was born and raised in Chicago, IL, a city girl who also loved the great outdoors.  She and her husband, Dennis, enjoyed many happy years of camping trips and traveling.  They spent their 40's riding motorcycles and traveling all over the country on the weekends.  Barbara also loved to read and later listen to audio books.  She had a vast knowledge of trivia and would have been a Jeopardy Champion given the chance!  Her family was her life and her marriage was the center of it all.  At age 77, she wrote a book, Grandma's 12 Guidelines to a Lifelong Marriage, and published on Amazon. Full of advice she shared with her grown grandchildren and stories from her life.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Dennis George Konopasek; her daughter, Kimberly Ellen (Timothy) Neal; her brother, Barry Edward Sloat; her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Patricia (Nimz) Sloat, and her son, Scott Timothy Konopasek.

Visitation for Barbara Doreen Konopasek will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at the funeral home chapel on Friday, June 19, 2026, 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, IL.
