Richard Thomas Haller
Richard Thomas "Rick" Haller, age 70, passed away peacefully at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet, Illinois, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. He was born on February 12, 1956, to the late John and Edith (nee Valerio) Haller. Born and raised in Joliet, he received his Associates Degree with High Honors from Joliet Junior College.
Rick was a loving, kind-hearted, and gentle soul whose unique personality and genuine spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Guided by a deep and unwavering faith, he approached life with an innocence that made him truly special. Rick had a remarkable gift for making people feel valued. He took the time to get to know others, remembered birthdays and personal details, and formed meaningful connections through his sincere interest in their lives.
Rick found joy in life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed sharing a good meal with family and friends, loved spending time in the water and was an accomplished diver, especially from the high dive. A creative and curious soul, Rick had a passion for writing poems and essays that reflected his imagination and heartfelt nature. His love of learning extended to many interests, including collecting rocks and teaching himself numerous languages, each a testament to his lifelong curiosity and fascination with the world around him.
Rick is survived by his sisters, Evonne (Mike) Rutz and Valerie (Terry) Melvin; his aunt, Rosemary Enger; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents; his twin brother, Robert John Haller, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Memorial Mass for Richard Thomas Haller will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Family and friends are invited to meet at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, 706 N. Broadway St., Joliet, IL, where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Friends of Sunny Hill c/o Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County, 421 Doris Ave., Joliet, IL 60433.
