Maria Tillmann

Obituary of Maria Tillmann

Maria Tillmann (nee Stanek)

Maria Tillmann, passed away peacefully at the age of 82, on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at The Pearl of St. Charles. Maria, born on May 26, 1944, in Yugoslavia, the daughter of the late John and Zlata Stanek.

Maria had a remarkable gift for cooking, and no one ever left her table hungry. Preparing meals was one of the many ways she showed her love, always making enough food for everyone to enjoy and plenty to take home. Her Thanksgiving stuffing became a cherished family tradition, eagerly anticipated each year, and her German potato salad was legendary among family and friends. Her recipes were more than delicious meals; they were expressions of care, comfort, and togetherness.

Family was the center of her world. She celebrated every milestone, treasured every gathering, and found her greatest joy simply being surrounded by the people she loved. Her home was filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting knowledge that everyone belonged.

She also had a lifelong love of music. Whether on a long car ride or a quick trip across town, she enjoyed every genre and never insisted on choosing what to play. Instead, with a smile, she would always say, "You choose." That simple phrase reflected her generous spirit and her happiness in sharing life's moments with those around her.

She found joy in life's little pleasures, including shopping and the excitement of seeing another Amazon package arrive at her doorstep. Each delivery brought a bit of fun and anticipation, becoming one of the many endearing parts of her daily life that will forever remind us of her.

She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, unforgettable family meals, cherished traditions, and countless memories that will continue to nourish our hearts. Though our lives will never be the same without her, we find comfort in knowing that her kindness, strength, and love live on in each of us.

Maria is survived by her children, Jim (Mary) Tillmann and Susan (Scott) McKay; and 5 grandchildren, Alizabeth, Stephanie, Michael, Teresa, and Donavan; her great-grandson, Theodore; her sister, Ann (Joseph) Ciaglia; and sister-in-law, Kathy Stanek. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wendell Tillmann; daughter, Elizabeth (Rocco) Muscia; and her brother, Anthony Stanek.
