David Dale Cheney
Age 82, of Joliet, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the Prairieview Lutheran Home in Danforth, Illinois.
He was born on January 26, 1944 to the late Gladys (nee Dolbow) and Elmer Cheney in Joliet where he was raised, educated, and had resided his entire life.
David was employed as a mechanic for Commonwealth Edison where he served faithfully for many years until his retirement.
A proud Shodan, skilled in Martial Arts, David, a 3rd degree black belt, mentored many at the Cheney Karate center over the years.
He is the beloved husband of 62 years to Roberta Rae (nee Pershey) Cheney; loving father of Barb Zell and John Cheney; proud grandfather of Lauren Taylor Zell, Anton Edward Zell III, David Dale Zell, Jillian Marie Zell, Mason Cheney, Simon Cheney and Isic Cheney; great-grandfather of Archer Boa Chen. Also surviving is his brother, Rich (Sue) Cheney; sister, Sue (late Gary) Martin, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering for David Cheney will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd (at Essington Rd) Joliet, from 11:00 am until a Memorial Service begins at 12:00 Noon. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in David's name can be made to your favorite charity benefitting children or animals.
