My deepest condolences to the family. Joan and I were classmates at Academy of Our Lady. She was truly a remarkable force with many outstanding achievements!

Joan is (or was) my most unique (and oldest) friend. We met when we were 8 years old and I had just moved to 103rd and Seeley. We went to grade school, high school, some time at St. Xavier's together... but mostly we just hung out and always had a good time. I don't think the two of us ever had a single fight. We might not see one another for a year or two (like when she moved to Phoenix) - but whenever we got back together it was as if we were never away. We could just pick up so easily where we left off.
Joan was the energetic one. She was always game to set up plans and off we would go. I loved hanging out at their house. There was always tv in the basement and pepsi was always available. (not at our house).
I have so, so many really strong memories of wonderful times over all the 70 years or so we knew each other. It would be boring for anyone else - but I will love all my memories forever.
I will miss her, but I will NOT stop talking to her. We shared half-birthdays. I am the older one by exactly 6 months. As we always did, I will toast her on those 6-month occasions.
Joan, there is still so much to talk about! I'm glad you will not suffer from any more side-effects (though you were such a tough one in how you handled them!) You could not have been a better friend or a better person. I am glad you are not suffering any more, but I am sorry your family won't have you in their daily lives any more.
Love you.
