Obituary of Matthew Alan Wisslead

Matthew Alan Wisslead, age 44, of Morris, IL passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2026 at his home.  He was born May 20, 1982, in Bloomington, IL the son of Herman and Lynn (Simkins) Wisslead.

He graduated from Morris Community High School before earning a bachelor's degree in Business from Northern Illinois University. He worked in construction as a skilled carpenter and later became a successful eBay seller, specializing in vintage and antique items.

An avid outdoorsman, Matthew found great joy in nature. He faithfully walked five miles each day along the I&M Canal, enjoyed collecting morel mushrooms, fishing, and playing Frisbee golf. He also had a keen interest in following current events and closely followed the presidency of Barack Obama. Above all, he cherished the companionship of his beloved dog, Finnegan, who was a constant source of friendship and joy.

He is survived by his loving parents, Herman and Lynn Wisslead; beloved sister, Stacy (James Fannin) Wisslead; dear aunts, Pam (Steve) Shanley and Kristine Erdle; dear uncle, Mike (Irene) Simkins; and several cousins and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations in his honor may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

As it was Matthew’s wish, cremation rites have been accorded.  A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.  Arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, Morris, IL.
