Nicole Marie LaFountain, age 44, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Bolingbrook Hospital.
Nicole was born in Naperville, Illinois, on June 7, 1982, to Scott and Cheri (née Benoit) Muntwyler. She was raised in Plainfield, where she graduated from Plainfield Central High School and later attended Joliet Junior College.
Growing up Nicole had a love for cheerleading. After marrying the love of her life, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to building a loving home and caring for her family in every way. Nicole embraced being a wife and mother with endless love and dedication, becoming her children's biggest fan and the ultimate sports mom—rarely missing a game, practice, or event and always cheering them on with pride.
Nicole was known for her caring heart, unwavering work ethic, and the genuine kindness she showed to everyone she met. She treasured spending time with family and friends and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether opening her home to others or lending a listening ear, Nicole made people feel like they belonged. To the children in her neighborhood and to her own children's friends, she was a second mom, always offering encouragement, guidance, and a safe place where they knew they were loved.
Dedicated and hardworking throughout her life, Nicole spent several years as a mortgage processor with PNC Bank, where she was respected for her professionalism and commitment. In recent years, she found great fulfillment working in the office at Plainfield East High School, where she enjoyed supporting students, staff, and families each day.
She leaves behind her loving family, countless friends, coworkers, neighbors, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Nicole is survived by her loving husband of 11 years, Alex LaFountain; her children, Audrey Rose, Mason Alexander, and Aiden James LaFountain; her parents, Scott and Cheri Muntwyler; two brothers, Scott Muntwyler, Jr. and Adam Muntwyler; mother-in-law, Susan (the late Gary) Goodridge; father-in-law, Dennis (Annie) LaFountain; her maternal grandmother, Sharon Frank; and her devoted canine companion, “Millie”. Nicole was also survived by several nieces and nephews that affectionately called her “Auntie Coco”, as well as several extended members of the Muntwyler, Krakowski, and Frank families.
She is preceded by her maternal grandfather, Kenneth Frank; and her uncle, Kenneth Frank, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with interment following at Risen Lord Cemetery, 1501 Simons Rd., Oswego, IL.
