Obituary of Barbara Holmberg

Barbara Holmberg, age 88, of Morris, formerly of  Worth, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Serenity Estates in Morris. 

She was born in Chicago on July 14, 1938, to the late Joseph and Bernice Cochran. She grew up in Worth, graduating from Eisenhower High School in Blue Island. She worked alongside her husband, Ken, at their family-owned Worth True Value Hardware store in Worth, IL, until the closing in 1998. 

Barbara found great joy in antiquing, attending auctions, and exploring barn sales in search of unique treasures. She especially loved finding special pieces to gift to her grandchildren and discovering items to fill her booths at several antique malls. Along the way, Barbara met many wonderful people and cherished the friendships and memories she made. She also had a competitive spirit, particularly when playing bingo, and enjoyed challenging herself with Sudoku. Her curiosity, love of a good find, and zest for life brought joy to those around her and created many lasting memories for her family.

She is survived her loving children, David (Patricia) Holmberg and Susan (Fred) Estelle; her grandchildren, Lisa Pizur, Nicole Holmberg, Ashley (Thomas) Coleman, Jessica (Matthew) DiMonte, Amandalyn (Sean) Jackson, Jamie Jackson, Ashley (Jarrett) Rowe, Stephanie Jackson and Remington Estelle; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Kenneth Holmberg; her parents; a brother, Robert Cochran.

As it was Barbara's wish, cremation rites have been accorded.  The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, Morris, IL.
