Raymond A. Salzman, Sr.
Raymond A. Salzman, Sr., of Minooka, formerly of Joliet, passed away with dignity at the age of 90, on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Raymond was born on August 11, 1927 and was raised in Joliet. He attended St. John the Baptist School and attended Joliet Catholic High School. Raymond was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. He retired as a Communication Maintenance Specialist with Illinois Bell in1989 after 38 years of dedicated service. He was an active lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy, and married the love of his life. In his free time, Raymond enjoyed taking trips to Wisconsin Dells with his family, dancing, tooling around the garage, fixing things and working out in the yard. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do; he even built the family home in 1970. He will be remembered for his sweet tooth of chocolates, his love of Polka music, the enjoyment he spent over the past 28 years of his retirement, and for the overwhelming love he had for his family.
Survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Linda R. (nee Kittrell); his children, Ray (Sharon) Jr., Linda “Cookie” (Daniel) Agnich, and Nancy (Jerry) Pekelder; grandchildren, Chris (Molli), Eric (Kelly), Mickey and Casey Salzman, Amy Chavez, Scott Agnich, Patrick Sterr, Jamie (Sean) Hopkins, and Ashley (John) Marren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded by his parents, Albert J. and Louise A. (nee Schreiner) Salzman; his grandson, Michael Sterr; and his siblings, John, Mary Louise, Eleanor, Dale, Lorriane, Rita, Jeanette, Doris, Betty, and Bobby.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff in the CVICU at St. Joseph Medical Center for the care and compassion shown to them during their difficult time.
Friends and relatives are invited to meet at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 404 N. Hickory Street, Joliet, IL on Thursday, November 9, 2017 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will take place under the auspices of the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Fred C.
