Obituary of Thomas LeRoy Kewley Sr.

At the age of 95, Thomas LeRoy Kewley, Sr. passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Center.  Born in Joliet to the late Thomas and Frances (nee Bennet) Kewley, he was a lifelong resident until moving to Marseilles six years ago.  He retired from the Joliet Post
Office as a supervisor in 1977.  Thomas was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Morris and a lifetime member of Cantigny VFW Post #367.  He proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Marine Corps as a private first class, serving in campaigns such as Tarawa Atoll, Saipan Island, Guam Island and Iwo Jima.

Surviving are his two sons, Thomas L. (Crystal) Kewley, Jr., of Lisle, IL and Gerald S. (Yvonne) Kewley of Seneca, IL; one grandson, Ian Kewley; two step-granddaughters, Heather Lutyen and Melody Forth; three step-great grandsons, Austin Gallagher and Chase and Chance Kramer; and his sister-in-law Anne (Richard) Franzen of Arizona.

He was preceded by his wife, Vera (February 15, 2016) and his parents.

Funeral services for Thomas LeRoy Kewley will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Fred C Dames Funeral Home, 1201 West Route 6 (at Deerpath Dr.), Morris, with Pastor Roy C. Backus officiating.  Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Marines.
