Obituary of James Kern Simmons

Age 70, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 02, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family.   James was born in Streator, IL on May 7, 1947 to Claude I. and Dorothy M.  (nee Kern).  He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  James retired in 2007 from Crane Composites after a rewarding career as an Executive Vice President of Business Development.  Jim enjoyed Porsche racing, playing the guitar and painting.  His greatest joy in life was his family and seven beautiful grandchildren.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Carol J. (nee Vaughan) Simmons; three children, Jason (Marisa), Jeremy (Christina), and Jessica (Stefan) Ruminski; seven grandchildren, Austin, Aiden, Mason, Dominic, Sloane, Anthony, and Grant; one brother, Michael (Ivonete); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents.  

Visitation for James Kern Simmons will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until time of Funeral Services at 7:30 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, IL 60431.  Family and friends are invited to meet directly at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Public Information Center, 20953 W. Hoff Rd., Elwood, IL 60421, on Friday, April 6, 2018, at 10:15 a.m.  Committal Services and Military Honors conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force will be held at 10:30 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.  For more information, please call 815-741-5500 or visit his Memorial Tribute at www.fredcdames.com
