“Life”
Floating in a spatial existence / Flitting through this temporal insistence / Trucking down mortal mesh works / Darting down the darkened networks // Winging on enlightened breath / Racing against inevitable death / Soaring upon sagacious sails / Skying within veracious pales // Bursting in loving unions / Vanishing into a spiritual communion,
Vernon finally journeyed Home
Love you, The Old Man

My deepest condolences to Sandie and the Family. I had the honor to work for Vern at BofA and became close to him over the years. Vern was a great leader with a positive attitude and always willing to listen and give advice. He was a good teacher and always maintained a very high standard to do the right thing. He talked a lot about his Wife, Kids, and Grand kids. I will miss Vern as a Leader and a Friend.

1SG (Ret.) Vernon Hegler was a no-nonsense soldier I enjoyed serving with. Vern was a highly competent Senior Non-commissioned Officer serving with the AGR Program. He always looked for ways to provide realistic training as well as hold everyone to the Army Standard (both Enlisted & Officers). I'm sorry that I lost track of him after our service together was complete. To his family, know that during the times he was away from home at training or deployments, Vern's passion to serve at the highest level made him someone others wanted to emulate.
RIP Vern.

Words can't begin to describe the man and father I grew to know. My father was a hard worker, a good husband, and an amazing father. His humor and silly jokes are something I will cherish for the rest of my life. I appreciate and am humbled by how hard my father pushed me in my life. It is because of him that I am where I am today. Thank you for being such an amazing and positive figure in my life and the kids' life. I miss you.

I have known Vernon and his family since 2005 and I have had the pleasure of working with Vern while serving alongside him in our Armed Forces and I am proud to admit, I recruited Vern to join us at Bank of America in our Military Banking segment. If I had to pick a handful of adjectives to describe Vern I would select; Details Oriented, inquisitive, Self-less, Caring and integrity. As one of my Battalion First Sergeants (1SG's), Vern was always leading from the front and teaching/training soldiers was something he did very-well and he took both the successes and failures personally. He worked tirelessly to ensure no one under his care was "missing-out" or "pushed-through" as he was well aware of the dire-circumstances and risks of sending a soldier into harms-way untrained - his conscious would not allow that. As a Combat-Veteran himself, he cared for his soldiers as if they were how very own children. While at the Bank, he viewed his position as an extension of his military service and he approached his work with the same level of importance and commitment. Many of Vern's colleagues at the Bank were unsure how this 25-year retired veteran would fit into the organization, but in very short order, he became indispensable to his team and he had earned their respect and admiration. Simply put, Vern was a success at life. He has touched the hearts of many and we are so very grateful to Sandy and their 5 children that they allowed us to witness the very best of this good man. I will miss you dearly my friend, Command Sergeant Major Mondrowski (Ret)

Was an honor to serve with this man! As my 1SG for my Iraq deployment he ran a tough ship, but in the end everyone came home alive. His was a tough love mentality that most didn’t understand until after it was over! One of the finest NCO’s I’ve ever been around!!

I had the pleasure of working with Vern over the last few years serving our servicemember clients. He was the kind of leader I looked up to and he inspired many to be better. I will miss his commitment to excellence and watchful approach to make sure we always got it right. 1 Corinthians 16:33 describes Vern perfectly, "Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong". You are already missed my friend.

Oh Sandie, our memories of Vernon are too numerous. We had so much fun and created so many memories together. They are advertising now about the July 4th festivities on Fort Stewart, and all I can think of, is the many years we spent watching the fireworks with you all. Vernon has always been a great man and friend. I hate that we haven’t gotten to see each other more. Love to all.

To all the Hegler family, my heart hurts for all of you at this time. I remember when we met for the first time for Ryan and Jessica's wedding and just how wonderful everyone got along. We felt like we had known Vernon and Sandie for years instead of just hours.
Vernon was a wonderful man, and I'm so thankful that he was always there for the kids and grandkids.
Such a sad loss for all of us and all the lives he touched through the years.
Rest in peace my friend, I know you will be watching over all your loved ones.

Vern, loved his family, he spoke wonderfully of his wife, kids, and grandkids. His love for country is what I admired because being the daughter of a Veteran, he understood the struggles my father encountered. He was a champion of helping others, he was selfless and authentic. He understood the impact we had with the work we did and put the needs of others first. Vern will be missed. Rest well, my friend.

I served with MSG Vern Hegler at the 863d Engineer Battalion (US Army Reserve) in Darien, IL. He was a role model for the battalion non-commissioned officers, and was always available to help teach (sometimes with a touch of coarse language added for effect) and mentor. As a crusty old fart NCO, he came across gruff and tough, but he truly cared for Soldiers and was completely committed to achieving the mission and preparing Soldiers for deployments. He spoke with the bark of authority, but also the wisdom of experience - his stories of his Iraq experiences always carried the weight of lessons learned. He and CSM Mondrowski offered me invaluable advice as the senior NCOs at the HQ, and I learned so much from them. He will be missed, and he had a positive effect on more Soldiers than you will ever know. He was a good man and a great Soldier. Essayons and Tackle Anything!
