Philip Theobald, Jr.

Obituary of Philip W. Theobald, Jr.

Age 75, of Joliet, IL, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with AML (Acute myeloid leukemia) surrounded by his family.

Philip is survived by his wife of 51 years, Thelma (Brown) Theobald; his children, Philip (Dana) Theobald and Toni (Brad) Colwell; his grandchildren, Jordan (Samantha Pitello) Colwell, Justin Colwell and Finn Theobald; his great-granddaughter, Skylar Colwell; brothers, William (Mary Anne) Theobald and Donald (Marcy) Theobald; and many loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews & neighborhood friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marge and Philip Theobald, Sr.; and one brother, John Theobald.

Phil was born and raised in Joliet. He attended St. Paul grade school and Joliet West high school.  He was a proud lifetime member of Local 150 Operating Engineers, where he started his career at Crown Trygg in 1967 and retired from K-Five in 2006.

Phil was known for his great sense of humor, cowboy boots, a good cowboy hat, his beautiful blue eyes, and being a proud Papa of his grandsons. He enjoyed going to cruise nights in his Shelby Mustang with his wife, especially Babes and Ace Drive-In, sitting in the garage and watching NHRA, or pulling up a chair in the driveway to visit with neighbors. He could spend hours on a summer day just sitting and waving at the neighborhood folks driving by. Even if he didn’t know them, they were friends.

The family would like to thank Phil’s hospice nurse Amy for all the love and care she gave in such a short time.

There will always be a chair in the driveway for you Pops, you will be deeply missed.. til we meet again.

As per Phil’s request, cremation rights will be accorded and there will be no services. Arrangements entrusted to the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, Joliet. For more information or to leave an online condolence, visit his Memorial Tribute page at www.fredcdeames.com.
