Nona Lee Davis (nee Dunkerson) passed away peacefully, at the age of 91, on Thursday, February 6, 2025, her devoted daughter at her side at Lightways Hospice Home. Nona was born in Burna, Kentucky on February 11, 1933, to her adoring parents, George and Nona Belle (nee Kanipe) Dunkerson. United in marriage to Raymond D. Davis Feb 2, 1952. She was a longtime resident of Joliet working 15 years at Shelby Craftco Co and later in life, as attendant at the Splish Splash Laundromat.

Nona enjoyed spending her time crafting and crocheting. She also found joy in gardening, birdwatching and being outdoors. Nona loved adopting and caring for animals. The love she showed her animals is truly admirable.

Nona is survived by her loving daughter, Sandra Davis, grandchildren Ryan Davis, Melanie LaPlante, Eric Davis and great grandchildren of Texas. Also numerous nieces, nephews, and her 11 cherished rescued cats.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond D. Davis; son, Raymond G. Davis; parents; many beloved dogs and cats. She was the last one standing in a family of 11 children. Those siblings that went before her was Dessie Mae Barnes, Joe Thomas, Homer Truman, Clara LaVerne Sanders, William Henry, Warren Gabriel, Flora Rothert, George Willard, Buddy Wendell, Joyce Ann McMican.

She professed faith in our Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and a member of Zion Baptist Church. She is now in the arms of Our Lord and Savior. May God Bless all left behind to mourn.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet, IL 60431. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to TLC Animal Shelter in Homer Glen, IL.
