Manuel Guerrero, Jr.
Manuel Guerrero, Jr. passed away peacefully at the age of 79, on Monday, February 17, 2025, at his home in Shorewood surrounded by his family. Manuel was born and raised in Chicago and was a Shorewood area resident for the past 54 years. He was a graduate of Governors State University with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts and Communications. Manuel proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966-1969, earning a National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and an Expert Badge with his rifle. He retired from Lucent Technologies as a Project Manager after 30 years of dedicated service.
Proud of his Catholic faith, he was an active parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood, and was a former parishioner at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield. Manuel served in many ministries within his church family, and as a Deacon, ordained in August 2007 faithfully. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He loved traveling and taking his family on vacation. He enjoyed hosting many family and friends for Wednesday Dinners. He was so proud of his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren who brought him so much joy. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Manuel is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy “Debbie” Guerrero of Shorewood; one son, Daniel. J. (Alita) Guerrero of Shorewood; one daughter, Rachel (Joseph) Troyner of Shorewood; five grandchildren, Justin (Amanda), Courtney (Josh), and Jake Troyner and Alec (Kalei) and Marcus Guerrero; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Jr., Jaxson, Jameson, and one soon to be born; one brother, Fred (Linda) Guerrero of Plainfield, IL; four sisters, Rachel Guerrero of Minooka, the late Amparo Padilla of Plainfield, Rosemary (George) Rembos of Naperville and Alice Moctezuma of Wilmington; godson, Steven (Samantha); and great nephew, Jonathon. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Manuel, Sr. and Alicia (Martinez) Guerrero.
Manuel Guerrero, Jr. will Lie-in-State on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 N. Brook Forest Ave., Shorewood, from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Internment will follow at St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery in Plainfield, IL. Visitations will also be held at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Holy Family Church or Lightways Hospice.
