


Obituary of George W. Herman
Age 81, George Walter Herman gained his angel wings on February 22nd, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on August 16th, 1943, in Joliet, Illinois, to Clarence “Mike” and Mary Elizabeth “Babe” (née Eberhart) Herman.
George worked as a cabinet maker for Romar Cabinetry for many years. On a daily basis, George channeled his inner Saint Francis of Assisi and took care of all God’s creatures that inhabited his backyard. He will be missed by all his precious squirrels and birds.
He married the love of his life Karen J. Spillie on October 5, 1963. He is also survived by six children, Renee (Jose Cruz) Madrigal of Joliet, David (Sara Choi) of Las Vegas, NV, Christine (Ramon) Plascencia of Lockport, Daniel (Vicki Young) of New Caney, TX, Angela (Dennis) Page of Joliet, and Lisa (Jeff) Chavez of Joliet; two sisters, Mary Lou (Jim) Payne of Joliet and Betty Mathis of Lockport; brother, Donald (Coleen Meurer) Herman of Rhinelander, WI; sister-in-law, Patricia (Spillie) Kurtz of Crest Hill, IL; brother-in-law, Joseph (Carmen Pacheco) Spillie of Rockdale, IL; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren; his best friend, Mike Roath; and his special grandpuppy, Susie Q.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence “Mike” (1997) Mary Elizabeth “Babe”(2008); brothers-in-law, Francis Kurtz (2016) and Richard Mathis (2024); mother-in-law, Marie (Pucel) Spillie; grandson, Michael David Pangrazio (1982); and granddaughter, Kassandra Lynn Pangrazio(1983).
A celebration of George’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL with visitation from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a prayer service at 5:00 pm. As it was George’s request, cremation rites will be accorded following his services.
We would like to thank Silver Cross Hospital for their comfort and care of George. We would also like to thank Sunny Hill Nursing Home and his two awesome nurses, Simon and Christine (Irish) for their excellent care of our beloved George.
