Obituary of Elwood Frigo
Elwood P. Frigo
Elwood P. Frigo, of Plainfield, formerly of Dolton, passed away at the age of 91, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at St. Joseph Medical Center. He was born in Chicago, IL, on October 20, 1933, the son of the late Peter and Pauline (nee Carollo) Frigo. Elwood grew up in the Pullman neighborhood and was a graduate of Fenger High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He attended Western Illinois University and graduated from Ray Vogue School of Design. Elwood was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having earned a National Defense Medal.
Elwood worked for decades at the family business, Vanderwarf’s, and later opened Al’s Painting & Wallpapering where he worked for numerous years before retiring. In his free time, he loved relaxing by the water with a fishing pole in his hand, a passion that he passed on to his sons. A sports fan through and through, he could always be found cheering on his favorite Chicago teams, the Cubs and Bears. He loved spending time at his home with his family barbequing, playing bocce, landscaping, and listening to old-time music.
Elwood is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Angela T. (nee Bruno) Frigo of Plainfield, IL; three sons, Peter A. (Beth) Frigo of Lowell, IN, David A. Frigo of Naperville, IL, and Scott C. (Marlene) Frigo of Mt. Juliet, TN; grandchildren, Desiree (Troy) Wood, Matthew Frigo, and Kyle Frigo; great-grandchildren, Colton Wood, and twins Rhys and Arlo Wood; and his brother, Dominick (the late Joanne) Frigo.
He is preceded by his grandson, Dean Frigo; his parents; and his brother, Peter (Sylvia) Frigo.
