Obituary of Steven W. Julifs
Steven William “Steve” Julifs, 57, of Shorewood, IL, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, February 28, 2025, with his loving wife by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born May 13, 1967, in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of Harold William and Sandra Jean (Walters) Julifs. He lived in Stevens Point, WI, before moving to Rochelle, IL, in 1972. He graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1985 and received his bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Western Illinois University in 1989.
Steve had a long career in sales at companies like American Computer Repair, Hoerbiger Corporation, and most recently operating his own insurance agency that specialized in Medicare Health Plans.
Steve had a big heart and made friends anywhere he went. He could effortlessly strike up a meaningful conversation with someone he just met as well as lifelong friends.
Steve was very handy, mechanically inclined, and was unafraid to tackle any new project or learn a new skill. He enjoyed a wide range of interests but especially loved kayaking, his garden, following the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and fishing. His excellent barbeque cooking will be just one of the many things about him that will be dearly missed.
Steve was a loving and devoted husband and father. His best friend, James Arndorfer, was like a brother to him. Steve will be greatly missed by all that he touched through his short life.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Kimberly (Hoshell) Julifs; daughters, Heather (Justin) McCarthy of Hillsboro, OR, and Holly Julifs of Winston-Salem, NC; his wife’s children, Sara Hoshell of Aurora, IL, and R. J. (Jessica) Hoshell of Glen Ellyn, IL; his grandchildren, Peyton and Reece McCarthy, Natalie Hoshell, and Ray III and Cole Hoshell; his mother, Sandra Julifs of Sterling, IL; his brother, David (Roxann) Julifs of Torrance, CA; and his nieces, Danielle Julifs of Salt Lake City, UT, and Rebecca Julifs of Rochester, NY.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold, in August 2024, and his infant sister, Kathryn Margrete.
Visitation for Steve will be held Friday, March 7, 2025, from 3:00 until the time of funeral services at 6:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Cremation rites will be accorded following services and interment will be private.
